Cebu, Philippines
With its picturesque coastline, affordable air connections, and some of the friendliest locals, the Philippines is a pretty sweet prospect for your first trip together. If you both enjoy water sports, sign up for the Kawasan Canyoneering adventure (and literally take the plunge!). Adrenalin junkies can snorkel alongside whale sharks in Oslob and Donsol, one of the few places left in the world to witness these mystical goliaths up close.
Budapest, Hungary
This stunning capital city of Hungary sits on 120 natural hot springs, perfect for some much-needed R&R (we recommend the Szechenyi baths). Also a huge party paradise, Budapest is perfect for those who truly love cocktail culture. Romkocsma, Budapest’s ruin bars are an unconventional phenomenon for a city with a reputation of romantic grandeur. Many of the city’s old Soviet buildings transform into retro clubs at night, offering a unique bar hopping experience.
Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
With its postcard-like landscapes and amazing accommodation options (from luxury resorts to quaint homestays), sail along the pristine emerald waters of Halong Bay on a five-star cruise. For a more secluded experience, head to Danang, home to some of the country’s most beautiful, idyllic beaches – with fresh seafood on offer. C’est la vie.
Stage 2: I’m so glad I met you.
Kyoto, Japan
If you want to steer away from the crowds of Tokyo, there’s plenty to do in Kyoto – a unique haven of temples, parks and mountains. Pamper yourselves in a traditional ryokan (a traditional Japanese-style inn), and savour Kaiseki, the traditional Japanese dining experience, known for its meticulous presentation, fresh ingredients and artistic presentation. Take the romance a notch higher with an overnight trip at a relaxing onsen ryokan (hot spring inn) at Kinosaki, just over two hours north of Kyoto by express train.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Popular TV show Game of Thrones may have ended already, but Dubrovnik in Croatia exudes romance with its natural beauty. This gem of a Mediterranean city is apt for history buffs with its Baroque and Gothic architectural marvels – not to forget its seductive sunsets. We recommend visiting in the summer, when life spills out onto the streets with summer festivals, open-air cafes and epicurean delights.
Buenos Aires, Spain
A blend of Italian and Spanish architecture; Buenos Aires is a melting pot of culture, food, and of course – soccer! This bustling city offers the best of romance and fine wine; so surprise your partner with a beginner’s Tango lesson to get your blood rushing. If you have two left feet, stroll through Teatro Colon, a stunning opera house renowned for its incredible acoustics and legendary performances by greats like Luciano Pavarotti.

Kakslauttanen Artic resort, Iceland
This Nordic Island will mesmerize you at every turn with jaw-dropping landscapes, volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields. Cozy up in glass igloos at Kakslauttanen and sip on hot cocoa, under a glittering carpet of stars. If you’re in luck (and the weather gods permit), there’s nothing quite as magical as catching the elusive Northern Lights together.
Oahu, Hawaii
Beach babies, look no further. Get on a two-hour luxury cruise, wine and dine with a candlelit dinner at sea and keep a day aside to go snorkelling with playful sea turtles. And if you were thinking of popping the question, we would highly recommend the lush green rain forests and the waterfalls of the Ko’olau mountains as the perfect, private backdrop.
Serengeti, Tanzania
If you’re good to spare no expense, we suggest you head to One Nature Nyaruswiga, an ultra-luxurious safari camp, tucked away in a secluded area in the popular Central Serengeti. Soak in views of majestic beasts roaming through the grassland, and book a hot air balloon for an out-of-the-world experience.
